Growing up on a ranch in west Texas, I learned a lot about living with the land. Like a lot of us, I grew up, moved away, and forgot about it. Or so I thought. After many years of apartment living, I bought a house and two days after moving in, rediscovered the simple peace of watering the lawn. Memories of digging in the dirt with my dad, hoeing with my grandmother, weeding with my mother, finding frogs and earthworms with my brothers, and sneaking into the garden to eat cherry tomatoes like candy came flooding back. After digging up my mother's copy of "Square Foot Gardening," I got to work building beds and planting food. I was thinking about how many people didn't grow up learning these skills and don't have time to garden when I realized I could do their vegetable gardening for them. And Backyard Groceries began.
